Because I Said So – Dad Edition – Dream Job

For this week’s Because I Said So, MommaDJane and I are going to discuss: If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be? If I won the lottery, and money was no problem and I could do whatever I wanted, what would I do?

First the ground rule on the subject.  It has to be something that I would be able to do.  It can’t be an astronaut or a professionally baseball player or surgeon because those are things I am not able to do.  Well, I guess I could do it but it is extemely unlikely to happen.  Even if you took away the pressures of having to earn a living, those things probably will never happen.
The funny thing is while I was unemployed and started going on interviewing, this is one of the questions that came up.  I am pretty sure, I answered it wrong but being asked it numerous times, I have an answer.

I want to be a writer

I guess I am already a writer because I write this blog and contribute to a couple of other blogs.
Mystery Novelist
I have been kicking around an idea for a mystery novel for about 5 or 6 years.  I have written a rough outline.  I have read numerous books about the subject.  I started with The Weekend Novelist Writes A Mystery(Amazon affiliate link), then I moved on to Stephen King’s On Writing (Amazon affiliate link) and wrapped it up with Janet Evanovich’s How I Write (Amazon affiliate link).   I just have not had the time to do anymore than that.
Horror and/or Science Fiction Short Story writer
This is a recent idea of mine.  I have an idea that I believe would be a killer idea (pun intended).  I have a couple of different ideas.  I could even merge the mystery writer and the horror genres.  I am not sure if I will ever be able to actually make these two dreams a reality.
Comic Book Writer
This is the big one.  This is the one I want more than anything else.  I am a fan boy.  I am a comic book geek.  I got my first comic when I was 11.  My grandfather bought it for me.  It is the picture of the comic above.  It is an amazing story with amazing art.  When I was younger it was all about the art.  I wanted to be a comic book artist right up until I got into high school.
At age 11, I might not have understood some of the themes.  It deals with suicide, being buried alive, and failure.  Some dark themes for a Spider-Man comic book.  Years later, I would go back and reread that comic.  The art became less important and it was all about the story.  When I read a comic book now, the art still has to be good but the story is more important to me now.
Making the Dream Happen
I probably could make any of these come true with a lot work.  Isn’t that how most dreams come true?  I know the steps of how to make them happen.  It would require me to write something.  Then write some more.  Then write a pitch, find an agent, and sell millions of copies and become a New York best seller, Edgar Award winning, and comic book writer that gets optioned for a movie and make millions of dollars.  Easy peasy!
What is your dream job?
Let’s head over to MommaDJane to see what her dream job is?  Have a topic or question you would like to hear our views on? Have you always wanted to hear both sides of a topic or answers to a question, unbiased? You can submit topics or questions via comments or even anonymously to buckrogers79@gmail.com. We will pick questions at random and blog on one topic per week.

I am already doing my dream job and that’s being strictly a work at home Mom spending all day with my children and evenings working doing social media marketing for clients, data entry, research, writing and sharing what I know through e-courses. I am lucky to be able to already have my dream job and I hope you both will be lucky to have it soon too!
