Because I Said So – Dad Edition – Go Outside

So it has been awhile since MommaDJane did a Because I Said So, we took some time off for the holidays.  For this week’s Because I Said So, MommaDJane and I are going to discuss: Do you find that both you and your kids are much happier when you get outside and move and explore?

Indoors

There are lots of things to do inside.  I love reading and so does my daughter.  We have a Wii and both of us like playing it.  Also with the temperature being so cold, I rather stay inside.  My daughter and I have dance offs.  Well, as much as a dance off one can have with a three year old.  Really we just do ballet moves from the Nut Cracker.  It’s fun.

Outdoors

My daughter got a bike from Santa this year.  One of my goals from last year was to teach her to ride a bike.  We have a lot of room in the living room but not that much room.  Yesterday, we took her out to the driveway and tried to teach her how to ride her bike.  We also took her across the street (that is where the sidewalk is) and pushed her up and down the neighborhood.

Afterward, we took down the outside Christmas decorations.  (Don’t judge me, I have no insurance and it’s cold, I have been postponing it.)  While we did it, my daughter got out her side walk chalk and drew trees on the driveway.  I was going to send her inside and my wife told me to let our daughter stay outside and get some fresh air.

I think sometimes, I forget to take her outside with the cold weather.  I rather sit inside but the fresh air would do her some good.  I am going to make an effort to go outside more often.  Maybe not when it is a wind chill of negative five but cold days should not stop us from having fun outside.
