I love reading books. I read all sorts of books. I read mystery novels, business books, marketing books, and non-fiction. If you are a PR person and you ask me to review a book, I jump at the chance. That is why I was super excited when One to One Network contacted me to do a review Once in a Blue Moon, I said yes. I had been looking for some new fiction and I am always looking to try new to me authors and expand my horizons. I was not disappointed.
Once in a Blue Moon is a novel about two sisters with not so great mother. When their mother is sent to prison for drugs, their friend and next door neighbor, Miss Honi Love, an ex-exotic dancer, tries to help them. Eventually, the girls are sent to foster care and separated. Thirty years later, the sisters are reunited, and both are completely different.
I got to say I was a little hesitant about this book. I even wrote it off as chick lit and tweeted my thoughts. The author, Eileen Goudge, tweeted back that it wasn’t chick lit! So I decided to go in with an open mind. After the first chapter I was hooked. Goudge does an excellent job of keeping her readers hooked into her characters’ lives. The book is all about relationships and trust. I really enjoyed it and if her other books are anything like this one. I will be picking them up.
Disclosure: One to One Network gave me the book and I got to keep it. My full disclosure policy is up at the top.
