Well my weekend started on Thursday actually because I “worked” from home on Friday. Friday night I went to my old high school’s football game. I don’t remember it being that crowded when I went to school there. My wife was sick from Thursday on and as bad as that was I kind of liked it. I got to spend a lot of time with my daughter, Danni, “riding in Daddy’s Car!”
Saturday, I went to a birthday party at Chuck e. Cheese with Danni. A lot of parents I know dread this. It wasn’t bad at all. Danni played on the slide. She played a couple of video games and won some tickets. I spent maybe $5 on tokens and she got a ring she really liked. Was the ring worth $5? No but she really likes it.
After the party, we went tailgating for the University of Memphis Tigers football game. Danni had a blast running around in the field. Fetching Daddy a beer (yes I know that is horrible). After tailgating for a couple of hours, we actually went to the game. Half way through the game, Danni had enough. I think she was overwhelmed with the cheering, music, etc.
On the way out of the game she noticed the Mid-South Fair and the cows. We went in (free admission with game ticket) and walked around the cows and bulls. Danni was very interested in the baby cows. We went in a little further and there was a guy guessing weight. He offered to guess our combined weight. He failed and we won a pink gorilla that was named Pinkie by Danni.
Sunday, I gave away $300 worth of Kroger gift cards for the radio station in an hour. If you live in Memphis be sure to find out when WRVR, FM100, or Snap! are at Kroger and you can win your share of 30 $10 gift cards for playing Baggo or Cornhole.
The rest of Sunday was filled with shopping and just being lazy.
I took off the Twitter updates to the left because most of them are me talking to someone on twitter and makes no real sense for it to be there.
Again thank you to everyone who commented, emailed, or told me what they thought. It was amazing how much response I got. Anytime I need advice I am going to post it here.
Now on to the Decision. A couple of days ago I wrote a blog about Danni in school.
After everyone’s advice and my parents weighing in offline, we decided to wait and see what happens. It was an isolated incident that only has happened once. The Floam eating that is. Danni is still not using her words but we have started not giving in to her “uh uh uh”s. It is hard sometimes because I just want that noise to stop and I just give her what she wants.
Does anyone else give in? Am I really a bad parent for teaching Danni to get me a beer out of the cooler? Any other advice?

I give in, always. I have an 18 month old who will not speak if he doesn’t have to. He’s my second, so it’s pretty normal. He grunts, we give. Mostly because we don’t have time for tantrums and sometimes because we don’t want to hear it anymore either. Not a horrible parent, they will all talk in due time. One guy I know, who is now 60+ and a very book smart professor, didn’t speak until he was 3yrs old, because his mom gave him everything. And he was first born.
The beer thing, on the other hand. LoL! It’s not bad. Except that my 18mo old also brought a beer to a guest one day, thinking who knows what. I about had a panic attack! So, it may not be the best thing.
Don’t worry too much about being a bad parent. You love your kid very much (obviously) you’re doing a great job.
The story of me giving in: At age 5 Cailey decided she didn’t like jeans, so when I bought her fall/winter clothes, I bought all “soft stuff” like sweats and yoga pants. Fast forward to Cailey age 11, she has not worn a pair of jeans since. ugh, shopping is soooo hard when you can’t start out with basic jeans.
@young momma: I only give in when i am not paying attention. I jsut have to make sure I always pay attention and am not on auto-parent
@snappymom as long as it doesn’t have writing on the butt we’ll be square
Just an FYI, you can change your settings on Twitter so that it doesn’t show all the @ replies from all your twitter friends
