I got laid off, these things happen

by BuckDaddy on November 24, 2009

On November 5, as a result of declining economic conditions and fund raising revenue, ALSAC/ St. Jude restructured and 70 positions were eliminated, including mine.  I am now exploring opportunities that will benefit from my 7 plus years of experience in marketing, brand management, and public relations.  My resume is the navigation menu above or click here.  Also feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn here.

I immediately tweeted and updated my Facebook status after I was let go.  I have been overwhelmed by support and kind words.  Thank every single one of you who have sent a job opening my way.  I have looked into each and every one.

For awhile, I was what I referred to as a roulette of emotions.  Spin the wheel and see how I am feeling in the grief cycle.  I denied that it happened.  I even headed to work and was half way there one day.  I threw myself a pity party.  I was really never angry because I understood why it happened.  In the end, ALSAC is funding a children’s hospital.

I finally accepted it and started searching for a new opportunity.  I attended a two day seminar at Lee Hecht Harrison and learned a ton of helpful information.  I also got so see a bunch of people that were let go that I knew.  It was like a mini-class reunion.

I am open to relocating and welcome any opportunities.  Please contact me at buckrogers79@gmail.com with any and all opportunities.

You are going to make someone a valuable employee and I hope you know that and someone recognizes that soon. This was very well written and I commend you for not doing what many have and will do (me included) and just falling into the weeping and blaming stage. You are a really great guy I do believe. Keep up the good work and your background should do you well in this social arena when the time is right!

Hey, Buck, first and foremost, sorry to hear you were let go. Second of all, you were let go of a work position, but God is greater than any position and I know He's got you right where you need to be. Stay faithful and in great expectation of Him man. This may be a good time to explore starting your own projects, taking your blogging to the next level, or something else entrepreneurial. Remember, when one door closes God always opens another one in its place.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.

I appreciate the kind words. Also thanks for the retweets. The only issue I have with ramping up my blogging or something entrepreneurial is that I have to have income for the mortgage and need benefits for my child. But you never know, one day maybe I could take that path. Until then I will stay faithful.
Thanks again, Rod

No problem man. You got bills to pay and a family to take care of, I can understand you proceeding with caution. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you, and if you decide to take the entrepreneurial journey, I got your back.
