Kooky Kanuck and Peabody Rooftop, Tips to avoid long lines at the bar Peabody Rooftop Parties

by BuckDaddy on April 10, 2009

Thursday night I went to the Kooky Kanuck and The Peabody Rooftop Party. I had a blast. It has been a very long time that I have got to hang out with my friends with no kid or guilt. My wife stayed home because she wasn’t feeling 100% and wanted to stay home. My friends came and picked me up from work. This was great because I didn’t have to drive at the end of the night.

We headed to the Kooky Kanuck first. Saw owner Shawn. Invited me down for the Cinco De Mayo celeration. They are having $2 34oz Margarits, $3 Coronas, and $4 1800 Tequila Shots. I am sure they will still have the $3.99 34oz Coors Light.

The 34oz Coors Light Beers was the reason I was a little late getting to the The Peabody Rooftop Party. I missed Shinedown (they did an aucoustic set) and Free Sol (seen them a bunch). I really wanted to see Lord T and Eloise. They were awesome! Even Al Kapone got on stage and performed with them so that was a bonus.

The Peabody definetly made the right choice of putting it in the main ball room. They might have wanted to put some signage for those who didn’t know where they were going but other than that it was a fun time. I have read on other blogs complaining about the lines but I have a tip for you.

Tips to avoid the long lines at The Peabody Rooftop Bars:
1) Drink beer: I waited in line and realized the 2nd bartender was waiting on beer folks only. I skipped ahead of all those waiting for mixed drinks.
2) Buy 2 beers at once: They are cans. You can drink a can before the other one gets warm.
3) Tip!: You would think this was common sense. I tipped about a $1 a can and the next time I walked up the bartender waved me over and handed me my two cans without any yelling what I wanted.
4) Bring friends: I had abouyt 4 people with me and we all went in line together. Since we all were drinking beer, we walked away the line with 8 beers. I couldn’t drink the 2nd one and wa able to give it to my friend right after he finished his 2nd and before he has to wait in line again.

I was in the VIP section with the shorter of the lines so I can’t say that the lines work the same way in the regualr non-VIP section. You can purchase a VIP Pass for the 2009 Season for just $50 at the door or the cover for 10 games. That’s admission, valet parking and reduced drink prices for 16 parties – a $400 value – for just $50. VIPs will be treated to free food and beverage tastings from the Peabody Chefs and MillerCoors Memphis.
