I love reading. If you ever meet me and want something to talk about ask me about a book I am reading, or my favorite book, or author. I can go on for years and I love discovering new books. I love hearing what other people are reading.
One of the things I am most proud of is that I have passed this love on to my child. My kid’s bedroom looks like a library. She also knows when we go shopping if she asks for a book, I will get it. Want a new toy, not so much. Want a new book, no problem.
The sad part is that this is not rue for the some kids:
“Most children in low-income families have very few, if any age appropriate books in their homes. As a result, they miss out on the reading experiences that form the foundation for success in school and life. In fact, each year, one third of America’s children arrive at their first day of school without the skills necessary to succeed. ”
