You Can Change a World Through Adoption (Guest Post)

by BuckDaddy on May 14, 2010

I’m an insufferable optimist. I’m an idealist. I want to change the world. And I am. Through adoption.

Last year my wife and I brought our son Milo home from Ethiopia. You may not have noticed the world change, but it did. OK, perhaps we didn’t change the entire world with our adoption. But we did change the world for one little boy. And he’s changed our world. And that’s enough for me.

You see, I used to think we had to do something colossal to change the world. We live in the shadow of giants, from Susan B. Anthony to Martin Luther King Jr., changing the world was this life-consuming task, in many cases quite literally. And while those sacrifices have paved the way for every privilege we enjoy today, changing the world doesn’t have to be so, well, hard. Changing the entire world may be hard, but all you really need to do is change the world for a few. Change the world for a handful, and they’ll change the world for a handful more. And on it goes.

Adoption will change worlds. It’s a big step, and it’s not for the feint-hearted. But neither is parenting in general. If you’ve got the guts to parent, consider adoption. You can change a world.
