I grill year round. I love grilling out. I am a charcoal purist. I have never used gas. That is not to say I will never but I prefer to use charcoal. I was pretty excited when FlameDisk asked me to review their product.
FlameDisk is a solid ethanol (that would be corn) grill fuel that offers convenient, safe and eco-friendly grilling with true, flame-grilled taste. Anyone can use the FlameDisk in minutes, be a newbie or a seasoned professional. Leave the lighter fluid, matches and charcoal at home.
What is a FlameDisk?
The FlameDisk looks like a thin aluminum pie plate. You peel back the protective cover and light one of the holes and you are ready to go. There was no poof as with lighter fuel. It was super safe. The FireDisk burns for about 40 to 45 minutes.
What to cook using FlameDisk?
I recommend anything you normally grill. I would not recommend trying to smoke anything. The total time that it gives off heat is about 40 minutes. That is not ideal for smoking anything.
How Did the Food Taste?
According to FlameDisk in blind taste tests, you can’t tell the difference between FlameDisk and charcoal. I disagree. I think the taste is more what your get from gas grilling. Nothing wrong with that. I like either. The food did not taste bad.
Final thoughts
I like the FlameDisk. It is small and compact. After 40 minutes, it burns out. Easy clean up with nothing to get rid of except the disk itself. You can even recycle the aluminum if you so choose.
FlameDisk is available at retailers nationwide or by visiting www.FlameDisk.com and retails for $3.99 – $4.99.

Making it a highly uneconomical choice. For that same price I can buy bag of cheap charcoal and get 2 to 3 hours of heat. I can't see this being useful past a quickie dog or burger. Jay http://www.indigorules.net
Sometimes you just need 45 minutes and don't want to have to deal with cleaning up. I think that FlameDisk is ideal for tailgating. Also I use it when I am cooking for a party and don't want to have to deal with charcoal and everything that comes with it afterward. Age long argument of convenience over price.
