BookSwim – Book Rental, like NetFlix for books

by BuckDaddy on December 20, 2009

BookSwim BooksI read a lot.  I read 3 books at the same time and consume a 300 page book in a day and recall most of it.  I am not a trained speed reader, I just enjoy reading.  Let me tell you about BookSwim.com.

BookSwim.com is a web site for renting books of all genres by numerous authors.  You can also search the NY Times Best Seller List and Oprahs’ Book Club.   There are a variety of plans to pick from depending on how much/little you read and what best fits your budget. Prices range from $9.95 per month to $59.95 per month depending on how many or few books you like to read that includes shipping both ways as well.

The first thing you do is check which plan best fits your needs, select next, fill in your account and shipping information, determine if you want the free shipping or expedited shipping (that costs a litte bit more), and then begin selecting the books you like to read.  I choose The Broken Window by Jeffery Deaver, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity by Bill O’Reilly.  I read the first two in 3 days and while I wait for two more to come back I have my third to read.

Book Swim instructionsThis service is great for the reader in your life.  There has been plenty of times that I buy a hardcover book and finish before the end of the day.  For the price of that I can, get 3 books a month unlimited from BookSwim.com.  Also if I like the book so much that I want to keep it, BookSwim.com has the option to buy the book for a discounted rate.  The only problem I have with that is BookSwim.com puts stickers on the cover and if I was going to buy I would not want it on there.

BookSwim Discounted Rates

For me the best plan would 3 books at a time, sending 2 back at a time, unlimited for $29.95.  They have a plan that is one book a month for $9.95.  Right now they are running a special that all plans are $9.95 the first month.

Pros of BookSwim.com

  • a plan for any budget
  • great selection of books including NYT Times Best Seller
  • enjoy the books, you can buy the book at a discounted rate

Cons of BookSwim.com

  • decide to buy, book will have stickers and be used
  • for a guy who consumes books rapidly, $29.95 is a little steep for me and the 1 book a month for $9.95 is not enough books for me

Hi, George from BookSwim here. I'm always pleased when we get to see a new member post about their experience. I want to comment directly about the stickers. Although they may not directly state it, each temporary decal is completely removable. We designed them with book buyers in mind.

Although from your photo, I guess the warehouse guys could be a little more careful so as not to put place the decal UPSIDE DOWN!

I did not know the decals were removable so that is good to know.
